Beyond the Taco: What to Eat in Cabo

Don’t get us wrong: WE LOVE TACOS! Chicken, fish, carnitas. In fact, we haven’t found a taco we didn’t love. That said, Cabo San Lucas is chock full of other amazing culinary creations. So, while you may be tempted to order up another street taco, we recommend trying a few different dishes.

1. Fried Chicken at Flora Farms

No, we haven’t lost our mind. We just think the fried chicken at Flora’s is delicious! And, it’s a fun evening for something different. Fried chicken is only served one night a week at this organic farm/restaurant/bar/spa. We HIGHLY recommend making reservations early. And don’t skip out on the craft cocktails. Get a taxi, enjoy your food, order a few drinks and take in Flora’s serene surroundings!

2. Oysters at Baja Oyster Bar

Mi Cocina has long been a popular dining destination in San Jose del Cabo hotel, Casa Natalia. Last year, Chef Loic Tenoux opened the Baja Oyster Bar to rave reviews. Definitely a passion project for the French-born chef, you can rest assured you’re enjoying the freshest oysters Los Cabos has to offer. In fact, Chef Tenoux has partnered with Sol Azul SeaFarms, a sustainable oyster producer in Baja California Sur. Sol Azul farms are located in the coastal lagoons of  “El Vizcaíno”, an internationally-recognized Biosphere Reserve on the West coast of the Baja Peninsula where the gray whales come to reproduce. Casa Natalia’s Baja Oyster Bar is a seasonal pop up. Inquire with the hotel for specifics.

3. Tamales at Mi Casa

If you ask us, you can’t go wrong at Mi Casa. But if you’re asking, we’re big fans of the tamales at this Los Cabos staple. Tamales are made of dough and can be filled with meats, cheeses, fruits, veggies, chilies etc. They are steamed in a corn husk or banana leaf. Mi Casa offers a tamale sample platter that reflects the different culinary regions of the country: cheese and chile poblano, beef in pasilla stew, chicken with mole and pork in tomatillo sauce. Mi Casa’s flagship location is in downtown Cabo San Lucas while their new location is in the heart of San Jose del Cabo’s historic center.

4. Ceviche at Hacienda Cocina y Cantina

Dine under a blanket of stars with your toes in the sand at this beautiful beachfront restaurant. Located on one of Cabo’s most popular beaches, Medano, Hacienda is the perfect special evening out. If you’re a seafood fan, you’ll definitely want to order up their Ceviche Verde with sea bass, tomatillo sauce and avocado. From the appetizer to the dessert, diners recognize Hacienda’s dedication to fine local ingredients and carefully crafted dishes.

5. Cesar Salad at The Office Medano

We hesitated adding the caesar salad to this list. Not because of the taste (it’s delicious), but because you may think we are crazy! Cesar salad actually originated (as the story goes) in Tijuana by an Italian immigrant who operated restaurants in the US and Mexico. Following tradition, The Office’s Cesar Salad is prepared table side following the original, historical recipe–romaine lettuce, egg, parmesan, . The Office cesar is intended to feed two people.
