October: The month of fishing tournaments

BuzzLowRes

Wow! What a month! Cabo San Lucas enjoyed not one, but two amazing fishing tournaments courtesy of Bisbee’s.

Los Cabos Off-Shore

First up, it was the Los Cabos Off-Shore Tournament. As reported by Bisbee’s, this was the largest field in the tournament’s history with 95 boats AND an total purse of $629,300. And talk about a lucky catch! The winning team, Tranquilo from Costa Rica, won “by virtue of catching the only qualifying marlin, a 399-pound black, caught on Saturday.” AND get this! “That catch earned $460,200 as the heaviest marlin to sweep all jackpot entries.”

The next two “richest” catches were a 238-pound yellowfin tuna worth $105,400 and a 165.1 pound tuna worth $64,600.

Where the Los Cabos Off-Shore Tournament was once a lead up to the Black and Blue, it can now stand alone as an incredible tournament to be a part of.

“A total of 139 striped marlin, 22 blue marlin, 16 sailfish and one black were caught by the 632 anglers competing. Fifteen yellowfin were also boated. Two weighed blue marlin were disqualified after failing to meet the 300-pound minimum.”

Black & Blue

Fast-forward a few days and you won’t believe who pocketed over $2,511,462, the second-highest single team payout in Black & Blue history. It was none other than the Costa Rican Tranquilo! They reeled in a 327 pound blue marlin that swept all but one of the optional jackpots. Even so, Tranquilo didn’t even WIN!

All-in-all, 121 teams (and 945 anglers) competed in the 35th edition of the Black & Blue.
